First, your instructor gives you a short theory lesson on helicopter flight. Then you go to the tarmac and take a technical tour of your helicopter with your instructor. Then you climb aboard and familiarize yourself with the controls.
Once you have received take-off clearance, you operate the general pitch with your left hand. Rotor rotation accelerates to 395 rpm and you take off smoothly. You’re hovering now, and you’re pushing lightly on the stick to move forward and accelerate.
