This whole area, an ancient lake city, reminds us that people lived here 3,000 years ago. They lived in houses built on stilts to protect them from flooding caused by the rising waters of the Aare. At that time, there was nothing around the lakes but marshland until 1868. It was at this time that the first correction of the Jura waters was undertaken to drain the marshes.
